WANN WIRD ES ENDLICH WIEDER SO, WIE ES NIE WAR

WANN WIRD ES ENDLICH WIEDER SO, WIE ES NIE WAR

German Release Date: February 23rd, 2023

Insanely funny and deeply touching, the bestselling film adaptation "Wann wird es endlich wieder, wie es nie war" (When will it finally be the way it never was), based on the autobiographical novel of the same name, tells of Joachim Meyerhoff's extraordinary childhood in the old West Germany.

Seven-year-old Joachim lives with his family in a villa on the grounds of the largest child and adolescent psychiatric clinic in Schleswig-Holstein. The patients are his friends and confidants. The bell-ringer, a mute giant, carries Joachim to school on his shoulders like St. Christopher; the evening cries from the closed ward lull the boy to sleep.

Joachim and his father, the director of the psychiatric ward, have in common that they feel closer to the patients than to the so-called 'normals'. His mother, on the other hand, wouldn't mind inviting the Eckmanns over for cocktails and often wishes she could go to another world. For example, back to Italy, where she spent a wonderful time as a young woman.

Joachim's world is an absurd and wild idyll, even if his brothers drive him into fits of rage almost daily. The Meyerhoffs are a family that loves each other in their own special way. But while Joachim slowly grows up, this world gets more and more cracks, not only because of the loss of his first love...

Arsseni Bultmann, who most recently appeared in the feature films "Die Wolf-Gäng" and "Schatz, nimm Du sie!", takes on the role of the adolescent 16-year-old Joachim. As a boy at the age of seven, Joachim is played by Camille Loup Moltzen; Merlin Rose finally embodies him as a 25-year-old. Devid Striesow has already impressed with his leading role in "Ich bin dann mal weg" and now plays Joachim's father. His mother is played by Laura Tonke, who just attracted attention with "Caveman". Other roles are played by Axel Milberg, Anne Müller, Lina Beckmann, Andreas Merker, Matthias Bundschuh, Kathleen Morgeneyer and Sarah Bauerett.

The film was directed by Sonja Heiss, who most recently won numerous awards for her feature films "Hedi Schneider steckt fest" and "Hotel Very Welcome". In 2011, her acclaimed short story collection "Das Glück geht aus" was published by Berlin Verlag. "Rimini," her first novel, was critically acclaimed and was on the SPIEGEL bestseller list. Together with Lars Hubrich, she is also responsible for the screenplay. "Wann wird es endlich wieder wie es nie war" is a production of Komplizen Film and Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany.
